New Works Festival
Fri, May 5, 2017 @ 7:30 pm
Two new works, two weekends in a row:
Fri/Sat, May 5 & 6, 7:30pm: THE EMPEROR OF THE MOON
Love, chastity, and space aliens—a special, two-night-only workshop production of Glenn Hergenhahn-Zhao’s new translation of Aphra Behn’s 1687 comedy, The Emperor of the Moon, in which a pair of lovestruck cousins try to pass off their suitors as lunar visitors in order to fool their moon-obsessed pater familias.
Thu/Fri, May 11 & 12, 6:30pm: Smooth, Smooth Jazz
A dark comedy about a husband who responds to learning that his wife has been involved with another man by hiring a wannabe thug to kill him in front of her—but all does not go according to plan. WWU senior Teague Parker just won a national playwriting award for this darkly funny script that explores the grey areas of relationships, stereotypes, and traditional thinking.
