“The most charming love letter in literature…”

We proudly present the final Main Stage Production in iDiOM Theater’s 2018/19 Season: the Bellingham premiere of Orlando, Sarah Ruhl’s epic, full-length adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s 1928 novel about the life of an Elizabethan nobleman who, after a days-long sleep, mysteriously wakes up as a woman and lives on for 300 years into modern times without aging.

A romp through the ages, a meditation on time, gender, and sexuality, Woolf’s Orlando: A Biography has been called “the longest and most charming love letter in literature.”

Contemporary American playwright Sarah Ruhl’s adaptation uses narrative and a chorus to enact lyrical, instant, and whimsical transformations as we follow Orlando through countless epochs.

Directed by Rich Brown, our full production of Orlando is the culmination of this year’s Playwright Reading Series, which also included stage readings of Sarah Ruhl’s Dead Man’s Cell Phone and Eurydice.
