‘Talking Godot’ – a lecture by Glenn Hergenhahn-Zhao
Thu, August 30, 2018 @ 7:30 pm
“There are some plays written a hundred years ago that feel like they were written yesterday. To me it seems amazing that Waiting for Godot premiered in a little theater on the West Bank of Paris only 65 years ago. It didn’t go over well.
“Some time later at the London premiere, when one of the characters asks for a rope to hang himself, an audience member yelled, ‘For Christ’s sake give him some!’
“A play starring two tramps where nothing much at all happens, and it has become maybe the most influential play of the 20th century. Pretty amazing.
“August 30th I will be giving a lecture on the many mysteries of Godot, if you like that sort of thing…”
