Calendar of Saga of the Völusungs performances

The inspiration behind Wagner’s Ring Cycle and Tolkein’s Lord of the Rings, aspects of the ancient Norse legends known as the Saga of the Völsungs will feel familiar to most audiences.

Odin, dragons, a cursed ring, werewolves, a divine sword that only a worthy warrior can pull from where it has been thrust… all inhabit this legendary tale of a line of Viking kings through the generations.

Audiences can expect humor, heartbreak, music, and small feats of theatrical magic.

The Saga of the Völsungs is iDiOM Theaters’ second epic three-show Main Stage Production of the 2019–20 Season, after The Norman Conquests in November.

Audiences can see each play in the trilogy individually, or see all three together in one of three epic, four-and-a-half hour saga performances, with dinner and desert served in the two intermissions.

The cast of twenty-four actors is the biggest yet for a show at CENTER. With each actor playing multiple roles, singing, fighting, and railing against the fates, it is the biggest show of the 2019–20 season.

CENTER Artistic Director Glenn Hergenhahn is no stranger to writing epically long works. His serial plays Bellopolis, Circus Fundido (co-written with Krissa Woiwod), Situation Tragedy, Be Kind As Children As Birds in the Sky: The Story of The Brothers Karamazov As Told by the Monks of St. Vincent’s Abbey, and The Acheron have all appeared as part of iDiOM Theater’s past seasons.
