CENTER Resident Company Whatcom Jazz Music Arts Center presents weekly jazz concerts in the Studio Theater every Wednesday night from September through June.

Catharsis Trio, a pared down and intimate version of Ryan Keberle’s Catharsis, brings together elements of chamber music, South American folk, indie rock, and jazz to form a unique and intimate sound of “indie jazz”.

We're delighted to present this acoustic-electric duo, both members of which have led their own bands on the WJMAC stage.

Musician, composer and educator Ann Reynolds leads her all-star quartet through original and classic Cuban jazz tunes, from the charm of cha-cha to the depths of Afro-Cuban rhythms. Seattle based, world focused Clave Gringa consistently delights their audience.

Welcome Alexis Cole to the Jazz Center stage! Jazz Times calls her voice “a deep contralto as smooth and dark as the richest espresso,” and says that “Cole’s easy sense of swing is strongly reminiscent of Sarah Vaughan.”

Multi award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter and pianist Laila Biali has toured with Chris Botti, Paula Cole, Suzanne Vega and Sting. She has headlined festivals and venues spanning five continents including Carnegie Hall.

Xavier is a 21 year old American drummer and composer, with French and Mexican heritage. The music he composes is drawn from the music he grew up listening to, including classical music, latin jazz, Mexican pop-rock, American Pop music.

Come enjoy this remarkable trio playing an evening of music primarily in odd time signatures. Featuring Phil Parisot on drums, Jared Hall on trumpet, and Michael Glynn on bass.

Composer, trumpeter and educator Samantha Boshnack has toured nationally and internationally and has released five albums, of mostly her compositions.

Matt Williams is a jazz pianist and vibraphonist based out of Seattle who is “quickly establishing himself as an important voice in creative music.”
